To Season or Not To Season?

It has been observed through burning our own wood that these species burn well once split and stored in a purpose made log store when temperatures are above freezing for a duration of only 4 to 6 weeks.

  • Fraxinus excelsior
  • All betula
  • All Acers
  • Ulmus they have nearly all succumbed to elm disease and have been standing dead for a time.

Everything else will benefit from storing from a minimum of 4 months to 12 months best, before you get maximum heat from it.

Remember wood stored in a boggy field for 12 months soaking up all the moisture can be defined as seasoned.

A wood store outside needs air to circulate around the store and have a roof which directs the rain from the wood.

We process our wood when we have time in our busy schedule. To ensure you get best heat from our wood it is best to store it in a log store before burning unless I state otherwise when you collect it.

Thanks
